PhD writing done, future workspaces and blogging

by Lilia Efimova on March 11, 2009

An update due three weeks ago: finally I finished the dissertation writing! After a holiday in Russia (made more ’special’ by dealing with the chickenpox we brought along) I’m back to work, still recovering from writing and discovering what normal life is.

The PhD is not finished yet: I’m waiting for the PhD committee feedback on the dissertation and will have to do a bit of work on it after that. If everything goes well, I should have the final version somewhere in April-May (will post it online as soon as possible); the PhD defence is currently scheduled for 22 June.

Future Workspaces While finishing PhD writing is great, I’m more excited to be able to start working on all other things – like finally getting to work with my colleagues on the Future Workspaces program (FWS; official ‘about’ page), which is about nomadic work, flexibility and all kinds of other challenges that working in knowledge-intensive environments brings. You will definitely hear more about it, also since there will be some cross-posting from/to FWS team blog.

I also have some big blog-related plans, like long wanted redesign and starting a more personal, kids and life-related blog, to give back to the parenting blogoshpere that I’ve learnt so much from at the meantime. And, I still have a few PhD-related things to blog about: remaining pieces from the blog networking study, themes I didn’t have enough time to work out in the dissertation and all kinds of reflections on the process that might be useful for others getting into the trouble. So, let’s see how it goes…
